Pokemon Go will have you facing off against challenging raid Pokemon throughout your journeys outdoors. If one of these is Heatran, you are going to need to have some strong teammates available to you. Heatran can be a tall order if you don’t have the right setup available. If you are setting to battle one of these, then we’ll walk you through the best counters and all of its weaknesses in this guide!
Heatran Weakness & Counters
Heatran is a Fire and Steel-type Pokemon, which means it has weakness to Ground, Fighting, and Water-types. While Fighting and Water-types are good, your best bet will be Ground-type due to Heatran have a 2x weakness to it!
While Heatran is weak to those three types, it has a lot of types that it is resistant against. Heatran is double resistant to Bug, Fairy, Grass, Ice, Poison, and Steel-types. It is also resistant to Dragon, Flying, Normal, and Psychic-types. That’s a whole lot of resistance, so make sure your team is heavy towards Ground, Fighting, and Water!
To counter Heatran, you will want to bring some of the following Pokemon. Pretty much anything you have that has the move Earthquake on it will be a decent option. We’re looking to go hard on Ground-type moves.
- Garchomp – Mud Shot/Earthquake
- Rhyperior – Mud-Slap/Earthquake
- Groudon – Mud Shot/Earthquake
- Landorus (Both Versions) – Mud Shot/Earth Power
- Excadrill – Mud-Slap/Drill Run
- Rhydon – Mud-Slap/Earthquake
- Golurk – Mud-Slap/Earth Power
- Krookodile – Mud-Slap/Earthquake
- Golem – Mud-Slap/Earthquake
- Donphan – Mud-Slap/Earthquake
- Swampert – Mud Shot/Earthquake
If you have either Mega Blastoise or Gyarados, then either of those can be good with their Water-type moves. If you have Shadow versions of some of the counters listed, they are usually the more powerful option to take with you.
You should hopefully be able to fill up your team with at least some of those counters, but if not just throw in as many high level Ground-types. If you’re still lacking then look for Fighting and Water-types to hopefully get enough damage in to finish your raid encounter!
